Some people would say that I am lagging behind when it comes to almost everything in my life. Personally, I just think that I like to live the simpler life. I don?t want to say that they are all wrong about me, but I just don?t see the need for all of the fancy technology when it comes to phones and devices and computers.

Sure, I have a computer in my home and I use it quite a bit. But when I say quite a bit, I mean that because it is so slow, I am on it for a long time just trying to get a few emails sent out. But what it wrong with sending a letter or calling someone on the phone. That reminds me of another kind of technology that I cannot stand, texting! I do not like getting texts from people and I do not send out texts.

I don?t understand the point of them. If you don?t have a plan on your cell phone that includes unlimited texting, then you pay a lot just to send a quick message that you will be late. Why not just call? I just think that so many people are afraid of real human contact that they would rather pay to send a two word message than to actually have to call and talk to the person. If technology continues to evolve this way, our children will have no understanding of how to communicate with other people and that is a very scary thought.

There is an annoying new trend in the world of blogging. I like to call it “Poking the Bear Syndrome”. While I am not above posting a loaded question on my own blog, I am seeing a lot more people doing it with no real responsibility for the consequences. What really scares me though is when younger kids post these questions on their blogs, and then they really start an uproar. I know adults who can’t handle a fray. So when you have a kid who really doesn’t know better weighing in on very controversial issue, it is not going to end well. I think there are two keys to this.

One. If you are a parent of a budding blogger, don’t let them post on forums not their own. There needs to be a little respect for other bloggers especially if they are adults. It’s hard to comment back as an adult when you know that the previous comment was made by a child. It’s also hard to have an adult conversation with a child. So set some boundaries.

Two. If you do poke the bear, then take responsibility for the firestorm that will ensue. Too often I see people post on their blogs that they “don’t mean to start anything, but…” Oh yeah, right. If you didn’t mean to start it, then you wouldn’t have posted it. If you mean to start it, then just go ahead and own it. Also, take responsibility for whatever happens in that forum. After all you made the choice to poke the bear.

I just want people to act like adults. For some reason blogs and open online forums are the places where people get ‘brave’ and say whatever they want to without regard for anyone else.
